Book Review: Bissondath, N. (2002). Selling Illusions.
Prior to this course, I had no real knowledge about any policy issues but I have always been very interested in issues related to multiculturalism in large part due to my identity as a visible minority Chinese-Canadian. I was keen to thus explore Canadian Multiculturalism as a policy and chose to review a, what I feel is very controversial, book by a Canadian author critically discussing this subject.

Research Paper: Multiculturalism Policy and the Issue of Full Participation for Visible Minority Immigrants in Canadian Society
Continuing on my exploration of Canadian Multiculturalism policy, I chose to look into the issue of multiculturalism policy and the issue of full participation of visible minority immigrants in Canadian society. Coming from a Chinese immigrant family, I am very sensitive to the issue of systemic social inequities that visible minority immigrants face in Canada. I was also inspired by John Porter's concept of Canada as a 'vertical mosaic,' which I first learned about in one of my Sociology courses.

Integrated Literature Review Website: Refugee Voluntary Repatriation
I have been interested in refugee issues ever since my BSW program and it was during my time at the Cape Town Refugee Centre, an implementing partner of the UNHCR, that I first learned of the UNHCR's three durable solutions (resettlement, local integration, and repatriation). Of the three, I was least informed about repatriation and so I decided to explore refugee voluntary repatriation in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the different areas of work with refugees.

Paper: Gender Case Analysis of Malnutrition in Mozambique
I had previously travelled briefly to Mozambique but was quite ignorant of the prominent issues in the country. In my own small way of trying to redeem myself, I decided to look at this specific case study. This project also allowed me to connect with my interest in working with women and helped give me better insight into the importance of taking into account gender differences in development work.

Paper: Health and Nutrition Frameworks for Maternal-Child Health
In anticipation of my practicum with Healthy Child Uganda, I took this assignment as an opportunity to take a look into approaches to maternal-child health, which is an area that I did not have any previous experience in.

Literature Review: Refugee Youth Mental Health in Resettlement
As a Settlement Worker in high schools, I felt a pressing need for service providers to be more knowledgeable about mental health in refugee youth as impacted by the period of resettlement in a new country. This inspired me then to explore available research literature on the subject of refugee youth mental health in resettlement. As my first experience in doing a literature review, this project really aided in preparing me for my first project with HCU.

Case Project: Evaluating Mental Health Services Accessible to Refugee Youth
Building on the SOWK 677 Literature Review, I had the creative opportunity to design a research study that was to take place in Moose Jaw in partnership with MJMC, my previous place of work, and that incorporated anti-oppressive principles and a person-centred approach. For this project, I also had the chance to develop an interview guide as a data collection tool, which helped prepare me for developing interview guides during my time with HCU.

Assignment 1: Reflective Writing
Ever since my BSW program, I have been really appreciative of opportunities to reflect, but often, I find sitting down and truly reflecting highly challenging. I therefore am grateful that this assignment prompted me to take the time and effort to critically think, reflect and make connections between course readings and my own experiences as to dig deeper and further my own understanding.

Diversity Social Justice Project:
Intergenerational Trauma and Attachment: A Connection Between Colonialism and Current Issues in Indigenous Populations in Canada and Australia
As part of my interest in multiculturalism and ethnic relations, I have always been concerned with issues surrounding Indigenous peoples. In my past volunteer work in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside community, a high percentage of the clients I worked with were Indigenous, and in my BSW program, there was a heavy emphasis on Indigenous peoples and issues. Through my travels, I ended up living in Australia and while I was, there I could not help but recognize the similarities between the issues faced by the Aboriginal peoples there and the Indigenous peoples in Canada. Therefore, I wanted to incorporate that experience into this project.

Term Project: The Housing and Anti-Gentrification Movement in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside Community
Volunteering in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES) community is how I first became interested in possibly pursuing a career in social work and so I wanted to somehow reconnect with the community that first sparked my interest in this field and give some recognition to this inspiring community.
